The Interview
This spoof-comedy stars Seth Rogen and James Franco as two reporters who score a huge interview with North Korean dictator, played by none other than Jon Hamm. As Aaron Rapaport, Hamm gives one of his funniest performances to date. It’s perhaps his most irreverent role on screen, and one of the most offbeat performances we’ve seen from him.
Keeping Up With the Joneses
In this soon-to-be classic comedy, Jon Hamm stars as the mysterious and suave Tim Jones. Tim, who is actually a secret agent posing as a couple’s neighbor, is tasked with taking down a global arms dealer. Joneses is packed with hilarious moments, most of which are created by Hamm’s performance.
Baby Driver
In this unique heist flick, Jon Hamm plays a criminal mastermind named Buddy. He’s the brains behind the elaborate heist, and his ambivalence towards the safety of everyone involved adds the extra humor the story needed. Hamm’s role is one of those that you can’t help but love because of just how iconic and distinctive it is.
Minions
When it comes to iconic Jon Hamm movies, Minions has to be up there. Hamm voices a “Singing Villain” in the 2015 animated feature that’s packed with laughs. As a singer-songwriter, he croons out a hilarious rendition of “I Swear I’m Good At This,” making him one of the funniest characters in the movie – and one of the most memorable ones, too.
Million Dollar Arm
Jon Hamm plays one of the most obnoxious characters ever in this biographical sports drama. He stars as JB Bernstein, a down-on-his-luck sports agent who decides to find the next major league baseball star in India. Hamm’s performance never lets up. He’s incredibly insulting and completely obsessed with his own personal gain, making his character all of entertaining and funny to watch.
Tag
This star-studded comedy is all about a group of friends who have been playing tag since they were kids, and Jon Hamm plays the ultimate over-achiever, Bob. Hamm plays up Bob’s eccentricity to the fullest, making him one of the funniest characters in the movie. While the dialogue throughout the entire movie is pretty funny, some of the best moments of Tag come when Hamm is riffing off of his fellow cast members.
Bad Times at the El Royale
This “caper film” is filled to the brim with talent, and Hamm’s performance is no exception. Here, he plays a mysterious priest who is harboring a dark past. His “search for redemption” subplot is executed to perfection, and his character is both mysterious and hilarious in equal measure. A truly iconic performance from Hamm.
All in all, Jon Hamm is one of the most underrated comedic actors working today. From his performance as a wild singing villain in Minions to his background role in Tag, the actor has proven time and time again that he can be just as good in comedy as he is in drama. With plenty more comedic roles still up ahead for him, there’s no telling where his wit, charm and comedic timing will take us next.
